Moyes admits frustration at comments about Van Persie and Van Gaal’s decisions

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes has once again quashed rumours that Robin van Persie is unhappy at Manchester United and questioned Louis Van Gaal’s decision to play him for the whole game.

Moyes travelled with Van Persie back from the Holland game on Wednesday night and sat with him on the plane in conversation alongside Patrice Evra, hardly a sign of frustration between the duo, but Moyes was frustrated by Van Gaal’s decision for Van Persie to be played for the full 90 minutes despite being sick on Tuesday.

“I actually travelled back after the France v Holland game, with Robin and Patrice Evra,” Moyes said.

“If you actually read the whole transcript, I think it was taken out of context… we understand fully.

“Robin is a really good player and we will do everything possible to make those opportunities work for Robin. A lot of what has been said (about Van Persie) isn’t correct.

“Robin was in his bed all day Tuesday being sick but he felt better on Wednesday and he played.

“I was a little bit surprised he played 90 minutes in a game they were losing 2-0 but he did do.”

Something is clearly not right with Van Persie. Is he unhappy at United? Maybe. However, his dreadful performance against France was akin to that of recent performances at United – lifeless, disinterested, lethargic and not clinical. Characteristics you’d never associate with Van Persie. The fact he put in that sort of performance with his country indicates that whatever his issues may be, they could be more than just United.

When a season is going badly, rumours like this surface. If Wayne Rooney hadn’t have signed a new contract, there’d be plenty about him in the papers too but all Moyes and Van Persie can now do is show improved performances on the pitch – once that comes, the incessant rumours will die down (unless they are true).
