Mexican midfielder Herrera admits he wants to play for Manchester United
Hector Herrera has admitted that he’d like to play for Manchester United in the future ahead of a move to European football this summer.
The 23-year-old midfielder has agreed in principle to join Portuguese outfit Porto from his Mexican club Pachucha this year.
Herrera had been heavily linked with a move to United in the past with Mexican media outlets claiming United were in the running for signing him ahead of Porto.
But speaking to Mexican media outlet Exclesior about his move to Porto, Herrera admitted that he would prefer to play for Manchester United in the future rather than Real Madrid or Barcelona in order to gain regular first team football.
He said: ”Obviously I’d like to play in a team like Real Madrid or Barcelona, but one is aware of the football they play and the truth is I’d like to play in Manchester United or any other large team in those where I know that I am going to be playing.”
He can sit comfortably in front of the defence but he’s also an incisive passer and will make runs forward and link up with the attack. He has great stamina and never seems to stop running. Duncan Tucker, Mexican football journalist
Porto are renowned for selling their assets with Hulk, Falcao and Alvaro Pereira all being sold in the past two years and Herrera is aiming to use Porto as a springboard for a big move in the future.
“First God, I have to do things with that team to later emigrate to Spain or England with a team of more renown,” he admitted.
“I know that in this team have played major players which are then sold and succeed at big clubs in Europe, I hope that I can live the same.”
In truth, it has been a whirlwind 18 months for the talented 22-year-old Mexican who only made his debut in July 2011. Just over a year later, the central midfielder Herrera finished the domestic season by picked up the Golden Ball for best ‘rookie’ of the year award, and was celebrating victory over Brazil as Mexico claimed Olympic gold at London 2012.
Late last year, The Peoples Person sat down with Mexican based journalist Duncan Tucker to talk in depth about Hector Herrera (to view the full interview, click here) and from Duncan’s expert advice, he is the exact midfielder United are missing – a real box-to-box player with bags of energy and a hunger to have possession.
And if can do well at Porto, he might be able to land himself the move to La Liga or the Premier League that he is after.
