Moyes admits youngsters ‘knocking on the door’ of United first team

David Moyes has been impressed with Manchester United’s youngsters so far on the pre-season and admits that some of them are ‘knocking on the door’ of the first team.

Jesse Lingard, Adnan Januzaj and Wilfried Zaha have all played a part in every game so far on the tour and all three have been extremely impressive.

Lingard in particular has shone having scored three goals and when asked whether any were close to knocking on the door of the first team by MUTV’s David Stowell, Moyes said: “Yes, he [Lingard] is.

“It was good. It was a tough game for the young boys and it was probably as young a team as we could have put out and we wanted to see how they did and they did well.

“I want to see how they [the youngsters] can do. I want to give them opportunities because when it becomes harder when we get back, we’ll be playing in much of a much more serious nature. I want to see what they can do just now and they are doing well and not disappointing me.”

As well as Lingard’s impressive performances, the young Belgian Januzaj has been a revelation. Mature beyond his years, Januzaj has showed great composure on the ball for someone so young and he has certainly earned his stripes.

But above both Lingard and Januzaj, Zaha has arugably been United’s most impressive player on the tour and it is something that has not gone unnoticed.

Moyes continued: “He [Zaha] is showing some really good signs.

“He has got a lot more to do which we are working on to get better but like myself, he is settling in and getting to know everybody but I have to say he is doing a very good job at this present time.”

It is exciting to see United’s youngsters flourishing on tour and Moyes staying true to his promise that he would continue with the traditions of promoting the youth.

While they may not be ready for a full first team spot yet, they are doing all the right things to impress Moyes ahead of the start of the Premier League season.
