Moyes dodges Thiago talk but confirms progress with transfers

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes has refused to be drawn into speculation linking Manchester United with a move for Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara.

Yesterday, Pep Guardiola confirmed Bayern Munich’s desire to sign the midfielder that has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

But Moyes continued to keep his cards close to his chest and refused to be drawn into naming players but confirmed he was happy with the progress he has had in the market.

When questioned as to whether Thiago a target for United, he said: “I never said he was.”

“There are targets we’re chasing at this moment in time.At this moment in time, we’re happy with how things are going.”

It is good news that United are working on multiple targets behind the scenes but it is anybody’s guess as to who they are with the club sticking to  it’s traditional tactic of keeping transfers firmly behind closed doors.

As well as commenting on progress in the transfer market, Moyes reiterated his firm standing that Rooney will not be sold this summer after Jose Mourinho’s comments about the player this morning.

He continued: “People are entitled to talk about good players.

“I’m sure Jose has been asked about lots of players as well. I’ll keep repeating myself: Wayne is a Manchester United player and he’ll remain that.”

Now that Rooney is back at the Aon Training Complex, speculation is going to mount every day that he will be leaving Old Trafford because Moyes won’t be able to speak with Wayne face-to-face for a few weeks.
