Moyes reveals United working hard to bring in new players

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes has insisted that Manchester United are ‘working hard behind the scenes’ to try and bring in some additions to the squad this summer.

In his first press conference, Moyes admitted he wanted to secure some signings before the start of the tour but that looks unlikely given that the squad fly out to Bangkok tomorrow.

And speaking this morning to talkSPORTMoyes revealed that the club were busy in the market despite the lack of official activity.

He said: “Man United will always be in for the best players in the world but we are also very interested in developing our own youth players and bringing in potential players for the future, so we are working on that just now.

“Don’t be kidded because there is a bit of a lack of activity. Take it from me, we are working hard behind the scenes to try to improve the squad.

“I’m really fortunate that Alex [Ferguson] has given me the champions of England. My job is to try and keep that going, maintain it and build on it. We are out there trying.

“I won’t talk about players at other clubs, I don’t think it is right, but I can tell you we are out there trying to do some business.”

A host of names have been strongly linked with the club such as Thiago Alcantara, Leighton Baines, Kevin Strootman and Marouane Fellaini.

But the Thiago rumours have carried the most weight given his €18 million release clause and desire for first team football.

It is also great to hear Moyes’ repeated stance that United are always looking to develop our own youth players because it is a tradition that must continue.

The likes of Pogba, Morrison and Daehli have all left because of a lack of first team opportunities so Moyes must make sure we don’t let players such as Januzaj go down the same road.

The kick off for the Premier League is now just 35 days away and although Moyes did want to bring in new faces before the start of the tour, he admitted that this transfer window could be a long one for United fans.
