PICTURE: United put public pressure on Wayne Rooney to stay

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have played their first hand in Wayne Rooney’s future by releasing a photograph on Twitter promoting his return to the first team on 6 August in Stockholm.

The club had not officially made any movement regarding Rooney since his return Carrington after sustaining a hamstring injury on tour up until now.

David Moyes has reiterated on multiple occasions that he is not for sale but this is the first move by the club to show that Rooney is going nowhere.

While Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea squad have all been having their public say on what Rooney should do next season, United have stayed quiet until this promotional shot for Stockholm.

Rooney is a United player, that hasn’t changed, and he is reportedly on course to return to action on 6 August if his rehabilitation continues.

The furore surrounding his future has quietened  down since Chelsea’s official bid and judging by this marketing move by United, they will be doing everything they can to keep Rooney at the club.
