Player Ratings: Yokohama 3-2 Manchester United

by Tom Parker

David De Gea 7: Tested early on and forced into a fabulous save within the first minute of the contest. Was caught a little in no-mans land for Yokohama’s second but could do very little for the final goal. Looked reasonably assured and his distribution was brilliant as ever.

Patrice Evra 5: Began in nightmare fashion with a misplaced pass leading to the opener. Found some space down the left at times. Was again at fault for the third goal selling himself far too easily. A bad display.

Jonny Evans 6: Didn’t have a great deal to do in what was a fairly comfortable performance. Read the game well as always and should have got himself on the score sheet, misplacing a free header and shooting wide from close range. Was subbed.

Phil Jones 7: Like Evans, was never truly tested and looked at home at the heart of the defence once more. Perhaps at fault for the Fujita’s winner but was unlucky with a bobble. Looks to be improving with every game at centre back and his positioning was almost faultless.

Fabio Da Silva 6: Didn’t go forward with the same verve as we are used to from his brother and struggled to make an impact in the final third. Defended pretty resolutely but might be disappointed with his part in Yokohama’s first strike.

Tom Cleverley 7: Started off a little slowly and his passing was far from slick. But, he grew into the game and provided energy in the humidity at the Nissan Stadium. Put himself about well as ever and should have done a lot better from a pullback which he blazed over from just outside the area.

Anderson 6: Struggled alongside Cleverley in the early stages and both missed the composure of Carrick beside them. Finished the game strongly with a couple of accurate through balls and a trademark surging run but didn’t give a great account of himself in the first half.

Jesse Lingard 7: Got on the scoresheet again, bringing his tour total to three. Was withdrawn at half-time but was again encouraging, not shying away from beating his man.

Adnan Januzaj 7: Another good showing from United’s promising youngster. Forced a fantastic save in the first half with a low curling effort on his unfavoured right foot. Again demonstrated an his composure in possession beyond his tender years and his interplay with van Persie was impressive.

Wilfried Zaha 9: Easily United’s best player on the pitch and arguably the best performer on the tour so far. Was key in the opening goal, showing good skill to beat his man and put the ball in the box. Never shied away from beating his man and absolutely ravaged Yokohama’s full-back. Showing signs of being a top drawer player.

Robin van Persie 6: Was more subdued than usual but managed to carve a fantastic chance out for Jesse Lingard in the opening stages. Was unlucky not to get on the end of Zaha’s cross for the first goal before Lingard tapped in and his set-piece delivery was threatening. Came off at half-time with a thigh complaint.

Substitutes

Chris Smalling 5: A late change for Evans, Smalling would have been disappointed not to get a block on to prevent Yokohama’s late winner.

Ryan Giggs 5: Another late substitute. Displayed some vintage wizardry with some lovely dribbling in a tight situation but had little time to impact proceedings.

Ashley Young 7: Impressed on his comeback from injury. His trickery should have been awarded with a penalty on 55 minutes and his dead-ball delivery was impressive. Released Kagawa with a lovely pass and should have scored from a Kagawa switch of play in the final minutes.

Danny Welbeck 6: Frustrated in front of goal once more. Should have had a goal within minutes of his introduction, only for his first touch to let him down. Squandered another decent chance when his close range effort was smothered by the keeper. Finishing lacked, as per, although he did work the channels well.

Shinji Kagawa 6: Received a hero’s welcome to the pitch and should have gave the home fans the goal they craved when he fired straight at the goalkeeper on his left foot. His passing in the final third was again impressive and he’ll be a lot sharper when United visit his hometown on Friday.
