The return of Manchester United’s baby face assassin

Javier Hernandez is set to be one of the first names on the Manchester United team sheet at Norwich. It’s been a frustrating start to the Premier League for Hernandez who has struggled to recreate the form from his debut season that saw him lift the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award, and even talk of a move away came up in the summer.

However, this month has been fantastic for the Mexican and after Hernandez’s heroics against Aston Villa, changing the game for Manchester United as a halftime substitute after falling 2-0 behind, Sir Alex Ferguson has guaranteed him a start in United’s next match. Seven goals in his last five games and averaging a goal every 50 minutes for United this season shows the Mexican is back to recreating his fantastic first season.

Even though Hernandez’s form fully deserves to be credited with a start, as the season progresses it is likely that we will see him playing the super sub role coming on to change games and possibly win us many many points as he did against Aston Villa last weekend.

Every article I’ve read in the last few days has compared Javier Hernandez to previous Manchester United super sub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It’s hard not to see the similarities of both players having the ability to change a game from the bench. Both possess a natural goal poaching talent that makes them extremely dangerous in and around the area. Infectious baby faces make them hard not to love and their remarkably upbeat attitudes always rubbed off on the players around them.

Our current strike force is the best in my life time (I wasn’t old enough to remember 1999). Sir Alex Ferguson has set United a 100 goal target and with a foursome of van Persie, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez, that target is very achievable. Having already scored 29 goals after 11 games in the league, we are already well on our way. Although, we may need more if our defence continues shipping goals at the rate it we are doing currently.

Jacier Hernandez has the capability to become a club legend just like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and at the tender age of 24, he has plenty of years left ahead of him for club and country. His starting time may well be limited by the powerful partnership of van Persie and Rooney but it hasn’t seemed to affected Hernandez thus far, he has in fact thrived on his opportunities and grabbed them with both hands.
