Thiago given ultimatum by Barcelona over Manchester United move

by Sam Peoples

Thiago Alcantara has been given a ten day ultimatum to make his mind up over his future by Barcelona according to Spain’s SPORT.

The newspaper, running with a full front page splash of the story in today’s print copy, is running with the story ahead of David Moyes’ first press conference as Manchester United manager.

It strikes me as strange that Barcelona would give Thiago an ultimatum over when he has to make a decision by given that his release clause automatically returns to €90 million on 1 August, but a ten day ultimatum does coincide with the start of Barcelona’s pre-season training on July 16.

thiago4Strong rumours suggested that Thiago could even be unveiled as a United player tomorrow at Moyes’ press conference despite not having completed a medical.

By the looks of it, Thiago has only just returned from his holiday as he posted this photograph on his Instagram tonight but given that he was away in Celta, he could realistically be in Manchester tomorrow for any deal.

So while a deal would certainly not be completed by United given that he has not had a medical, there is no reason why the club could not announce it if had already been agreed.

In the past 24 hours, there has been quite a lot of movement in the Thiago saga from the player being cropped, intentionally or not, from Barcelona’s kit press photo, his brother Rafinha officially signed a new contract with Barcelona and his father Mazinho reportedly sold his restaurant.

United’s interest on Thiago is expected to hopefully be confirmed or denied by Moyes in his first press conference but the signs are really building that the 22-year-old midfielder is going to be playing at Old Trafford next season.
