As Edwin Van Der Sar and Gary Neville hang up their boots and Paul Scholes delays news on whether he will continue playing football next season, SAF has promised to ring the changes during the transfer window this summer. Doubts over the future of United trio Brown, Owen and Hargreaves must also be at the forefront of Ferguson’s mind as he spoke yesterday evening. The form of Welbeck and Cleverley this season does bode for a positive future but SAF is clearly looking to strengthen the squad going into the 2011/12 season.
“We have some ideas in mind and hopefully we can get them put in place. Of course, we have some excellent young players and a lot of them have progressed, which gives us a great, powerful squad but I am looking at maybe three signings which would boost our overall quality in our team.”
The only guarantee is that SAF will be bringing in a new goalkeeper to Old Trafford this season but we can only speculate as to who he is mulling his mind over for the other 2 spots. I hope that he will bring in an attacking midfielder to allow Rooney a more central attacking role next season because no matter how good Rooney has been this season, he is a a striker and I want him to get 30 goals a season just like he did in the 2009/10 season. Depending on who else in Manchester United is deemed surplus to requirements, SAF may well wish to bring in another defender to bolster his options but only time will tell us who will be playing for United next season.
