On the same day that United will clash with City in the Community Shield at Wembley, it has been officially announced that Manchester United and Celtic F.C. will be playing a match on August 7 at Celtic Park that will include some of both of the club’s legends in order to raise money for the John Kennedy charity and the Celtic Charity Fund. It should be a fantastic event for both sets of fans as we will all to get to see some of our favourite players play once again and for United in particular, as we will see the fabled four strikers who helped United on their way to the greatest achievement in the club’s history, the historic treble in 1999. Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all signed up to play in this match and Celtic have announced that Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and current manager Neil Lennon will all participate in the fixture. The old players will be playing alongside some recognised celebrity faces that will be announced at a later date. Dwight Yorke had a few words to say about the occasion:
“It’s always a pleasure pulling on the red jersey and having had a look at the team lists, this is shaping up to be a great game of football. The Celtic team is a who’s who of top legends and some very interesting celebs are making an appearance too.”
United and Celtic have always had great footballing links and this should be a great off-season occasion that will give something for the fans to enjoy. For the full story and details on how to purchase tickets, click here.
