VIDEO: Sir Alex confirms Jones and Ferdinand return to training

Speaking with MUTV ahead of the away trip to Southampton this weekend, Sir Alex has confirmed the latest team news for the game. The main positive for United is that Jonny Evans is set to make his first appearance of the season and partner Nemanja Vidic in the heart of defence.

As well as the news that Evans will be returning, Sir Alex has also said that Phil Jones and Rio Ferdinand have both returned to training. Our defensive crisis was deepening with Carrick forced to play as a centre back for the first two games but it looks like we will be getting back to near full strength soon, pending further injuries that is.

Phil Jones has been sidelined since suffering an injury on the pre-season tour and Ferdinand since injuring himself the weekend before the season opener. They played important roles last season, Ferdinand particularly in Vidic’s absence, and the imminent return of both players is no doubt a massive boost to our squad, especially with the League Cup and Champions League fixtures just around the corner.
