*Player list B (These players can be added to the squad at any time and just because a young player isn’t on the list now, doesn’t mean they cannot feature at all in the competition)

There are no surprises (apart from Alexander Buttner being classed as forward on the official page) in the full Champions League squad for Manchester United with all our key figures involved but the stand-out news is the inclusion of Darren Fletcher in the squad.

Having not played a competitive game of football for United since being sidelined by a chronic bowel condition, Fletcher has been on the road to recovery and in recent weeks has impressed with assured performances for the U21s and is currently training with the Scottish national squad.

There was no space in the squad for new signing Angelo Henriquez or Portuguese striker Bébé, who actually impressed me during the pre-season. Maybe he will be going out on loan.

Manchester United will start their 2013 Champions League campaign with a home fixture against Turkish outfit Galatasaray on 19 September. Last season, we only managed to win one of our home fixtures with a victory over Otelul Galati, so a strong home performance in the first game will be needed to kick start the campaign.
