“It was a pleasure to play alongside Tom Cleverley.” Frank Lampard
Like last year, Tom Cleverley has started this season off in fine form. He has looked assured in possession and his energetic tempo of play is bringing some much needed life into Manchester United’s midfield.
England are reaping the benefits as well. For years, a naturally creative central midfielder has been what England have missed. It became obvious at Euro 2012 as we stagnated against disciplined opposition and found that set pieces and aerial balls were our best option.
Cleverley was quickly labelled the new Paul Scholes last season and whilst the ginger magician is irreplaceable, Tom has truly shown that United have options from within Old Trafford.
This could be his breakthrough season so long as he can avoid injury. At least Kevin Davies isn’t in the Premier League any more.
Tom earned the plaudits for his England performance against Moldova on Friday and rightfully so. He was the lynch pin in the 5-0 romp victory. Below is a video of his performance.
