Kagawa: My injury is not serious

Shinji Kagawa has put cold water on thoughts that the back injury he sustained whilst away on international duty with Japan is serious.

Speaking to the Kyodo News Agency, he said: “I felt a twinge in the back during practice when I was on the ball.

“I had some treatment but didn’t want to risk causing the team trouble by playing. Obviously it’s a shame I wasn’t able to play.

“It’s not that serious and I don’t think it will keep me out for long.”

Hopefully his assessment of the injury is accurate and he is indeed not out for long, if any games at all.

It is highly unlikely that Sir Alex would risk playing Kagawa against Wigan on Saturday if there was any chance of aggravating anything, even if it was a small injury.

In that case we may see Cleverley pushed up as the attacking midfielder in place of Kagawa after he has impressed with England in that role.
