POLL: Should Wayne Rooney start against Liverpool if fully fit?

by Sam Peoples

A simple question that will no doubt be split in the response it gets.

Wayne Rooney has been out of action for nearly four weeks after suffering his horrific leg gash against Fulham but with reports surfacing this week that he has returned to full training ahead of schedule, it sounds like there might be a possibility that he will be fit in time to face Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday. But is that necessarily a good thing?

He has only scored once for at Anfield for United and that was on his debut in the 1-0 victory in 2005. Since then, he has struggled with the pressures of the occasion. In the last few years especially, his form has always dipped for Anfield away.

Now that Robin van Persie is in the side and has scored four goals in his last two starts, the inclusion of Rooney in the starting line-up isn’t a guarantee. The summer signing has started his career at a blistering pace and having scored both of Arsenal’s goals at Anfield last year in their 2-1 win, he knows all about silencing the Kop.

I think, even if Rooney is fully fit, starting him against Liverpool isn’t an option. We have a fully fit world class striker in fine form and to be bring Rooney back from a month away from training in the biggest away game of the season wouldn’t do him or United any good.

What do you think?
