Sir Alex Ferguson confirms Wayne Rooney not fit in time for Liverpool game

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will play no part in Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match with Liverpool, he said:

“Everyone who played on Wednesday is available. I know there were reports on Wayne Rooney being available but that’s not the case, though he’s not far away. He could be back next week.

Ashley Young has a bruised cartilage – he’ll be okay in two to three weeks.”

It means that Robin van Persie will start up front against Liverpool. Last year, he scored a brace as Arsenal won 2-1, so he knows what it takes to silence the Kop. Hopefully he does it again come Sunday.
