Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will play no part in Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match with Liverpool, he said:
“Everyone who played on Wednesday is available. I know there were reports on Wayne Rooney being available but that’s not the case, though he’s not far away. He could be back next week.
“Ashley Young has a bruised cartilage – he’ll be okay in two to three weeks.”
It means that Robin van Persie will start up front against Liverpool. Last year, he scored a brace as Arsenal won 2-1, so he knows what it takes to silence the Kop. Hopefully he does it again come Sunday.
