Manchester United announce provisional squad for NexLions Cup in Singapore

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have announced their provisional U19 squad for the NexLions Cup in Singapore taking place between December 14-16.

Surprisingly, summer signing Angelo Henriquez will be joining up with the squad for the five day tournament and Adnan Januzaj won’t be making the trip. Alongside Henriquez will be the likes of Mats Daehli, Andreas Pereira, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson, who can’t seem to stop scoring so far this season.

The NexLions Cup is a competition aimed at between the Singaporean FA and Kirkwall, who are partners of the Manchester United Soccer Schools in South East Asia.

Manchester United’s academy will be joined by the U19 squads of Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon and Singapore.

Warren Joyce is hoping that the competition will prove to be a useful learning curve for the young squad.

He said: “We are looking forward to the NexLions Cup. I think it will be a good test for the boys and a great experience.

“There will be some strong competition with Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon fielding teams but I know our lads will want to return with the trophy.”

Here is the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Pierluigi Gollini, Jonathan Sutherland

Defenders: Liam Grimshaw, Nicholas Ioannou, Luke McCullough, Tyler Blackett

Midfielders: Charni Ekangamene, Luke Hendrie, Mats Moller Daehli, Jack Rudge, Andreas Pereira, Benjamin Pearson, James Weir, Thomas Lawrence
