Valencia: I turned down Real Madrid to join Manchester United

Antonio Valencia has taken to Instagram today to let everybody know that he turned down Real Madrid more than once before joining Manchester United back in 2009.

He said: “What I do for Manchester United <3… turned down Real Madrid couple of times… Love life in England.”

Valencia turned down Real Madrid simply because Sir Alex had told me he wanted him in his team – what a man.

Eyebrows were raised when Valencia became the first signing for United since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid but I don’t think those eyebrows will be raised any more. Last years deservedly crowned Player of the Year took to the team like a duck to water and he is one of our most important players now. Put simply, you can’t stop him if he is running at you.

Hopefully he will return to first team action sooner rather than later but Sir Alex this morning confirmed that Valencia will still be sidelined for three to four weeks, which is a big blow as we’re missing having our best wide player in the team.
