Manchester United draw Real Madrid in last 16 of UEFA Champions League

Manchester United have been drawn against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid – It doesn’t get any bigger than that. Our Champions League record isn’t very good against the Spanish champions – they have knocked us out in the 1999/2000 and in 2002/2003 competitions, with the great Ronaldo’s sublime hat-trick that got a standing ovation from both sets of fans still staying fresh in the memory.

Cristiano Ronaldo is coming back to Old Trafford. He still hasn’t played against us since his £80m move in 2009 and although his name still reverberates off the walls of Old Trafford, I don’t fancy us being able to keep him from scoring.

As group winners, having the second leg at home is a massive advantage. It means we can have the home support behind us when the pressure is really on. Old Trafford might not be the cauldron of noise it used to be but on European home nights, it always comes alive.

The first leg will be played on February 12/20 with the return leg at Old Trafford on March 5/12.
