Jesse Lingard, John Cofie, Ben Amos and Gyliano van Velzen have returned from their respective loan spells at Leicester City, Sheffield United, Hull City and Royal Antwerp ahead of the U21s Elite Group stage competition starting in the New Year.
Whilst on loan at Leicester City, Lingard (pictured, left) notched up five appearances for the Foxes in their Championship promotion push but couldn’t nail down a first team spot despite his impressive development in the past 12 months.
As for Cofie, he returns to Carrington off the back of a very successful spell at Sheffield United, scoring two goals in eight starts and eight substitute appearances for the League One outfit.
Gyliano van Velzen managed to bag himself his first senior goal whilst on loan to Belgian side Royal Antwerp. Luke Giverin will remain on loan at Antwerp for the remainder of the season.
Goalkeeper Ben Amos has returned to Old Trafford after making 19 appearances for Hull City, keeping four clean sheets on the way.
The return of Jesse Lingard in particular will be a great boost to the U21s. During pre-season and the first half of the U21s campaign, he was fantastic. Whilst still raw around the edges, he was really developing his game well and I will certainly be glad to see him playing again for United.
Michael Keane, who was also on loan at Leicester with Keane, impressed so much that manager Nigel Pearson is keen to extend the loan.
“Michael’s loan will finish but we will have a chat with Manchester United to see what their thoughts are about that,” he said.
The return of this trio continues a busy January transfer window for United that has already seen Bebe and Henriquez leaving Carrington on loans to Rio Ave and Wigan respectively.
