Manchester United have confirmed that young Belgian protégé Andreas Pereira has today signed professional terms just under a week after his 17th birthday.
Born New Years Day 1996 in Duffel, Belgium to a Brazilian family, Pereira was highly thought after from a young age and was eventually picked up by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
He was then scouted by United in 2011 and eventually signed for the club at the start of last summer. With the South American flair no doubt inherited from family members, Pereira has become a star in United’s U18s and has featured for the clubs U21s. A box to box player with a great turn of speed, United’s backroom staff expects big things to come from this young lad in the coming years.
Pereira follows a long line of United youth players to sign professional contracts with the most recent being fellow youth teammate James Wilson. Despite United’s early exit from the FA Youth Cup, a lot is expected of the current crop of youth team players especially with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley setting the bench mark for United’s next set of superstars.
With a ferocious shot and a habit for scoring top notch goals in the Barclays U18 Premier League, there’s no doubt that we’ll be hearing a lot more about Pereira in the near future and who knows, he may one day reach the standard of fellow countrymen Moussa Dembele and Marouane Fellaini and take the Premier League by storm.
