According to multiple reports, Scott Wootton and Davide Petrucci will join Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough on loan tomorrow.
Languishing fourth bottom in the Championship, Alex Ferguson looks to be giving his son a squad boost by sending out two of our best U21 players.
Both players are highly rated within United and U21s captain Petrucci in particular is a player who academy followers will be keen to see get real first team action. Injuries have marred his progress since joining from Serie A’s Roma but his natural passing talent and ability to dictate a game could make him a real hit at Peterborough.
Considering United’s lack of depth in midfield, Petrucci certainly has all the attributes of a first team player and given his improvements since returning from injury, a run of games could really benefit him.
Having already made 11 appearances for Peterborough on loan in 2011, Wootton will be familiar with working under Ferguson at the Posh.
This season, Wootton made his Premier League and UEFA Champions League debut for the club during a defensive injury crisis. The 21-year-old didn’t look out of place against a strong Newcastle in the Capital One Cup and nor did he look flustered when coming on away from home against CFR Cluj in the UEFA Champions League.
With Evans, Vidic, Ferdinand, Smalling and Jones all now fit and fighting for places, a loan move is certainly the best option to try and get Wootton some vital first team action.
