Reading boss pours cold water on Welbeck loan possibility

by Sam Peoples

Brian McDermott has quashed any rumours that Danny Welbeck will be moving to Reading on loan in January from United.

The Reading boss admitted that there was little chance Welbeck would be loaned out to any club due to his quality and importance to the United squad for this season.

He said: “I can’t see Sir Alex Ferguson sending Danny out to any club.

“I don’t know where this has came from, it’s got nothing to do with me.

“Welbeck’s a great player and I’m sure Sir Alex Ferguson thinks he’s a great player too. Everyone in the country thinks that.”

Danny Welbeck had been recently linked with a potential loan move to Reading despite being an important part of our squad. A loan move away from United, after an excellent first full season with the senior squad, would have been a step back.

So far this year, only Robin van Persie has made more appearances this season with 26 to Welbeck’s 23 which is a testament to how often Welbeck is used even if from the bench.

Sir Alex Ferguson loves rotating his squad and Welbeck will certainly play his fair share of big games. His intricate ball play and delicate touch make him unique among our strike quartet and he brings something different to the table.

I’m a big fan of Welbeck. Like Hernandez last year, he has struggled to find his form but as Chicharito has shown this year, form is always temporary. As soon as Welbeck gets back in amongst the goals, his confidence will return and bring the best back out of him.
