rory-smith-times-tweet-henriquezAngelo Henriquez tonight made his full debut on loan from Manchester United at Wigan Athletic against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

The 18-year-old Chilean striker played the full 90 minutes after being given the nod by Roberto Martinez. Despite not getting himself on the score sheet, Henriquez was certainly getting himself round the pitch. He picked up a silly yellow card late on but it didn’t take away from the fact he completed the full match.

When you think that Henriquez is only 18 years old, it is almost unbelievable. What were you doing at 18? Certainly not playing football with a Premier League team. He is extremely raw and unpolished but even in his short stint with the U21s, his talent was obvious.

As Rory Smith pointed out on Twitter, his natural movement is phenomenal. Like Hernandez, he is always making incisive runs off the shoulders of defenders. All it takes is a good pass to put a striker like that through on goal and that is why they are so sought after.

Hopefully under the wing of Martinez, Henriquez can find that service. Chilean team-mate Beausejour could well be the man with his fizzing crosses a key aspect to Wigan’s attacking style and if Henriquez can get a good five months of football at Wigan, he could come back to United and certainly challenge for a spot in the senior squad.
