PICTURE: This is why Wanyama won’t be leaving Celtic

by Sam Peoples

After Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted at Celtic Park watching Victor Wanyama score against Dundee United and the Kenyan admitted that Manchester United were his favourite team, rumours were picking up pace linking him with a move to United.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been in the spotlight ever since his superb performances against Barcelona that saw him quash the threat of Xavi and Iniesta in Celtic’s heroic UEFA Champions League group stage matches. His powerful, dynamic box-to-box style of play would make him a much desired commodity at Old Trafford given the lack of bite in the current ranks.

But, as they say, blood is thicker than water and a well timed piece of publicity from Celtic has certainly placed the ball back in their court after they released pictures of a Celtic Charity group of volunteers visiting Victor Wanyama’s family in Kenya as part of a trip to help transform schools for kids.

With Wanyama expected to come with a price tag of at least £10 million, he won’t leave Celtic on the cheap. Given their successes in the UEFA Champions League this year, they aren’t in a weak position and will likely hold out for as high a figure as possible if he was to leave. Getting into the good books with his family wasn’t a bad move either.
