Real Madrid make second proposal to move El Clasico due to Manchester United game

by Sam Peoples

According to AS, Real Madrid are putting forward a second proposal to the Spanish League to bring forward the El Clasico due to their UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester United three days later.

The Spanish champions want to move the El Clasico on Friday 1 to a 16:00 kick-off so that they can get the maximum amount of rest, before they make the trip to Old Trafford for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out tie with United.

The Spanish League, LFP, rejected Real Madrid’s previous request to move the El Clasico to Friday 1 March because moving their clash with Barcelona would have forced other teams in La Liga to change their fixture to accommodate.

Although this request to move the game to an earlier kick-off does not directly affect any other team, there is expected to be a backlash   as traditionally, the El Clasico is an evening kick-off.

Real Madrid are obviously desperate to get as much time as possible to rest before the United game, even if it is only an extra few hours.

The Peoples Person will bring you the latest news regarding the Spanish LFA’s decision as soon as they release their decision.
