Phil Jones left Old Trafford on crutches tonight with an ankle injury that overshadows Manchester United advancing into the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
Jones hobbled off following a collision with Jobi McAnuff during the tie against Reading. It was obvious straight away that Jones was in pain and he was immediately replaced by Nani.
Speaking after the game, Ferguson confirmed that the injury will have to be looked at in the morning to confirm anything.
“We’ll have to assess it in the morning,” said Ferguson. “It’s an ankle injury obviously so I’d imagine he’ll not be ready for Saturday anyway.
“But we’ll see what he’s like after that.”
Given how important Jones has been in recent games against Everton, Tottenham and Real Madrid in man-marking their key players out of the game, it comes as a massive blow.
Jones is all but ruled out of Saturday’s clash with QPR at Loftus Road but the focus will surely be on getting him ready in time for Real Madrid’s visit to Old Trafford on March 5.
