Speaking at the pre match press conference this morning ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Norwich, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed the latest team news. With Real Madrid on Tuesday, whoever plays on Saturday will give a good indication as to what players Ferguson wants to start against the Spanish champions.
Sir Alex on latest team news…
“Phil Jones starts running today. He’s got a fight on his hands to be ready for Tuesday (Real Madrid) but we’ll give him every chance. He won’t be available for tomorrow (Norwich).
“We have no injury issues. Robin van Persie has trained this week – he’s available for tomorrow. His hip was very tender but he’s okay now.”
Sir Alex on Norwich game…
“Tomorrow is an important one because Tuesday will look after itself. It’s an occasion on Tuesday whereas tomorrow is the mundane practical situation in that we need to win.”
Sir Alex on Ryan Giggs’ future after signing a new one year deal…
“He’ll be involved [against Norwich] and will be involved on Tuesday [against Real Madrid]. I don’t think what he has achieved will ever be achieved by anyone again.
“We’re fortunate we have players who have been here a long time, like Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Ryan. He deserves a new contract.
“That will happen [taking up a coaching role]. We’ve done the same with Nicky Butt and Scholes will do exactly the same when he finishes.”
