Highly rated Porto defender Eliaquam Mangala has insisted that it is the “best feeling” to be linked with clubs like Manchester United amid increased speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.
The promising 22-year-old says he is flattered with speculation linking him with a move from Porto Manchester United and Tottenham in the close season, with both clubs reportedly interesting in bolstering their defensive options this summer.
He has also drawn admiring glances from A.C Milan after an impressive Champions League campaign with Porto.
“I have a contract here till June 2016, however all players want to play one day in the top league in Europe,” Mangala told Sky Sports. “I am no different to that. “To be linked with clubs of the stature of Tottenham or Manchester United is the best feeling. “I want to finish the season strongly and see at the end of the season if the reports are true.”
The former Standard Liege man is in his second season with the Portuguese champions after a €6 million switch in the summer of 2011 and has appeared almost 50 times for his current club.
Mangala is relatively experienced for a 22-year-old having only played 23 times for France’s U23s but has since become a regular for Porto and has started against the likes of PSG, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica this campaign.
The defender’s good form won’t have gone unnoticed and United scouts were present in Porto’s 2-2 draw with Benfica as the club made checks on a number of players.
Porto are of course famous for selling most of their star players with Hulk and Falcao leaving in the last two seasons and United’s very own Anderson was purchased from the Portuguese outfit so a move could certainly materialise if the interest is genuine.
