Barcelona defender Erazo admits Manchester United interest

by Tom Parker

Ecuadorian defender Frickson Erazo has claimed that Manchester United have been in contact over a potential move to the club, but has insisted that he is firmly focused on current side Barcelona SC.

The 24-year-old is quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb as saying: “I try not to think about this.

“It’s really flattering that big European clubs are watching football in my country, but if you think about playing with Real Madrid or Manchester United you risk losing concentration.

“It’s true that there was initial contact but it will not help if my performance drops.”

Erazo’s name may mean little to those who don’t follow South American football but the 24-year-old centre back was instrumental in Barcelona SC’s recent league success.

It is on the international stage where Erazo has made the biggest impact, making twenty-one appearances for Ecuador. The defender apparently shares an agent with fellow United target James Rodriguez and his representative claimed the player has met with Manchester United.

While being something of an unknown quantity, the players international record suggests he is a more than competent player and the initial contact has already been made by United’s scouts, so a move could potentially materialise when the transfer window opens again in the summer.
