Van Persie blames Arsenal’s barren years for his grey hair

Robin van Persie‘s grey hairline has come earlier in life than most with silver streaks growing ever more prominent and the Dutchman has said that his Arsenal woes have “made him greyer” over the years.

Van Persie spent eight seasons at Arsenal but only has one FA Cup to show for it but he is on the cusp on winning the Premier League title in his first season at Manchester United, something he is relishing.

He said: “That I’ll probably win my first championship is very nice. I’m really thrilled about it.

“Not winning titles has given me quite some pain and it has made me greyer.

United and van Persie have a 15 point lead over Manchester City and with both sides facing teams from the Tyne this weekend, the lead could potentially stretch to 18 points with only eight games remaining.

“It still has to happen,” van Persie continued.

“We have to go to Sunderland and West Ham, and we have to play Chelsea [in Monday’s FA Cup quarter-final replay] and if we win, we play back-to-back against City in the league and the FA Cup semi-final. Then we have Stoke.

“These are not summer-night games. I watched United drop the lead last season but it’s getting awfully close now, and I’m really happy with that.”

Van Persie has been fundamental to United’s season so far, scoring 23 times overall with 19 of those coming in the Premier League, and has held his fitness fantastically well despite widespread doubts. Even though he spent eight years at bitter rivals Arsenal, van Persie has no regrets about the decision he made to move to Manchester in the summer, something he did to try and win some silverware – a move which may soon be vindicated.

I think my move to United came at exactly the right time, it shouldn’t have been any earlier or any later. Arsenal was for eight years the place to be. But last summer was the perfect moment to sign for United.”
