Dutch midfielder Van Ginkel admits he couldn’t turn down Manchester United

Vitesse midfielder Marco van Ginkel has admitted that he couldn’t turn down Manchester United if they wanted to sign him.

The 20-year-old, who has scored eight goals in 31 appearances for Vitesse this season, could follow in the footsteps of Alexander Buttner who made the move to United last summer from Vitesse.

Having made his full international debut against Germany this year, he has been rewarded for his fantastic progression over the past 12 months and admits that although he has no intention of leaving Vitesse, ignoring advances from United would be very hard.

He told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: “I will not necessarily leave, but you never know what will happen.

“We saw last year with Alexander Buttner, If suddenly Manchester United are at the door, it’s a different story.”

But van Ginkel seems keen to stay at Vitesse to make sure he continues his progression as a young player.

He added: “I think clubs like Ajax and PSV are beyond us. Those are bigger clubs, almost each year they play in the Champions League.

“But if you’re young, it is important to get minutes on the pitch and I can here.”

If Buttner has anything to do with it, van Ginkel would probably move to United in a heartbeat given that his ex team-mate will be picking up a Premier League winners medal in his first year at the club.

It was a surprise when United plucked Buttner from obscurity last season and he has certainly done a job for the team this year. Maybe van Winkel could do the same next year if United decided to make another surprise dip into the Dutch league.
