Robin van Persie has been named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for April.
The Dutchman returned to his early season form with goals against Stoke and West Ham before he emphatically sealed Manchester United’s title with a hat-trick against Aston Villa as well as scoring on his return to Arsenal the following week.
He was also named United’s official Player of the Month for the third time this season after racking up 58% of the fans vote.
Despite missing out on both the PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers Player of the Year awards, both of which van Persie won last season, he will be over the moon with how his first season has gone at United after wrapping up his first Premier League title with room to spare.
And with 25 league goals to his name, van Persie has all but won the Premier League golden boot for the second year on the trot as Suarez won’t play any further part this season so Bale is his closest competitor with 19 goals.
As far as debut seasons go at United, there aren’t many that can compete with van Persie’s. He could become the second player in three years to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award in their debut season after Javier Hernandez picked up the accolade back in 2011.
The little boy inside van Persie must be as happy as can be.
