PICTURES: Manchester United’s PR team left in a devilish mess

moyes-press-office-tweetManchester United’s PR group were left blushing after a monumental faux-pas let slip that David Moyes was United’s new manager before the official statement was released by the club – twice.

First, the official twitter account @ManUnited_PO tweeted “#MUFC announce new manager’ at 2.08pm, nearly two hours before the statement was released.

And that cock-up was followed by the Facebook team when they accidentally uploaded a new banner that said ‘Send your personal welcome to Manchester United’s new manager David Moyes’. Whoops.

Somebody had itchy fingers but with 33 million fans on Facebook and 140k followers on Twitter, it was rather embarrassing for the PR team. Twitter was send into a wild furore when the statements were released but quickly deleted but you can’t beat the speed of a screen grab in this day an age.

United’s PR team aren’t very good at making announcements about a new manager are they?  To be fair, they haven’t had to do it for 26 years so I’ll let them off.
