Sir Alex Ferguson has endured a tumultuous relationship with the press over his 26 year tenure as Manchester United manager.
Journalists were ousted, banned and shot down when they got under Ferguson’s skin and it certainly wasn’t always rosy with United constantly in the press, more often than not for the wrong reasons.
But in the end, champagne was shared in his last Old Trafford press conference and at this mornings ahead of West Brom, The Sun gave Ferguson a final farewell with a hairdryer cake modeled on their front page following his retirement. A nice touch from Neil Custis and co.
Whether the press hated or loved Ferguson was irrelevant because they know how important he was to the English game. His every word was waited on with baited breath and itchy fingers.
What will the red tops fill their back pages with now?
