Wilfried Zaha ended his Crystal Palace career in the best possible way today by securing promotion to the Premier League by beating Watford in the Championship play-off final.
The 20-year-old winger was a constant thorn in Watford’s side and he gave their right-back Cassetti a torrid game that culminated in Zaha winning a penalty that ultimately decided the game.
There were eyes burning in the back of Zaha’s head today and he more than delivered with a man of the match performance in what was, for the majority, a lacklustre match from both teams. Every time Palace went forward, the ball was played through Zaha whose quick feet and turn of pace were too much for Watford to handle.
Zaha’s a real talent – a raw, unpolished diamond. He showed that against Brighton and Watford in the two biggest games of his young career. I can’t wait to see what he can do in the Premier League for Manchester United next year.
“I’m speechless, My dream has come true. I’m happy to leave Palace now they’re in the Premier League too.” Wilfried Zaha
Comparisons to Ronaldo are early and foolish but in many respects, they are fair. He has a natural instinct to run at a player to take him on, trusting in his own ability to succeed and like Ronaldo, he does succeed more often than not.
It is the fairy tale ending for Zaha’s career at Palace. Plenty questioned his ability to do it on the big stage after signing for United in January but he silenced his critics with a stunning brace against Brighton to put Palace in the final before putting the icing on the cake with his performance in the final against Watford.
Zaha will come to Old Trafford already a winner and that is the perfect mentality for the youngster to walk into United with. His future certainly looks bright.
