VIDEO: Shinji Kagawa’s silky skills and audacious chip vs Australia

Shinji Kagawa has become the first Manchester United player to qualify for the 2014 Brazil World Cup after Japan secured a point against Australia in a 1-1 draw.

Alongside Keisuke Honda, the 24-year-old playmaker gave the Australian defence a headache at times with one particular moment of link-up play between the pair almost leading to a brilliant goal.

Kagawa makes the pass-and-move look so easy. We saw flashes of his brilliance at times across the season with his assist for Valencia’s goal at West Ham, where he glided past defenders before selling one short with a simple dummy, standing out in my mind.

And Kagawa was certainly unlucky not to get on the score sheet after his audacious chip clipped the top of the crossbar.

It is a great start to the summer for Kagawa who now has the Confederations Cup to look forward at the end of June where Japan will be competing.

If he can continue the good vein of form and help Japan get as far as possible in the Confederations Cup before joining up with United on their pre-season tour of Asia, Kagawa is certain to be in peak physical and mental condition going into the new season.
