“This is encouraging. This is the club of my dreams, it proves that I did good things, but I want to stay in France. I’ve already made my choice.” Nampalys Mendy
Nampalys Mendy has admitted that a move to Manchester United is his dream ahead of a move away from AS Monaco this year.
The 20-year-old midfielder, likened to Makelele by manager Claudio Ranieri, is out of contract this summer and wants to move away from the newly promoted club to pastures new.
But although a move to United is his dream, Mendy looks likely to stay in France.
Speaking on the United interest to L’Equipe, he said:
“This is encouraging. This is the club of my dreams, it proves that I did good things, but I want to stay in France. I’ve already made my choice.
“It is not because of the competition. That it does not scare me. Everywhere I go, there will be.
“And it is not the fault of Ranieri. If there was just him, I would have continued. It’s just that many things I disliked in the renegotiation of my contract.”
“I agreed with the club where I’m going, but I will not say anything before the holidays.” Nampalys Mendy
Manchester United were linked with a swoop for the soon-to-be free transfer of Mendy as the U21 French international has been dubbed the next Claude Makelele for his displays. He has already made 80 senior appearances for his club at just 20 and looks like a really exciting prospect.
On paper, Mendy sounds like exactly the sort of midfielder that United crave but it seems that he will stay in France, with Nice being the club most likely to have already secured his signature given their previous dealings with Mendy.
The youngster is currently on holiday in Morocco and will announce his future when he returns but it looks that despite United’s interest, he will stay in France.
