Claudio Marchisio admits he’d be proud of Manchester United offer

Claudio Marchisio has admitted he would be ‘proud’ if Manchester United came in with an offer to buy him from Juventus.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career with the Old Lady but there is an air of uncertainty about his future in Italy despite his long-standing association with Juventus, given the prominence of Vidal and Pirlo as well as the rise of Pogba since arriving from United.

And speaking in Brazil ahead of Italy’s participation in the 2013 Confederations Cup, Marchisio made it clear that he would have to look elsewhere if his position wasn’t secure at Juventus.

“I will have to talk to Juventus. I want to see if I’m still important for them,” he said.

“If not, then it is only normal for me to look at other teams. It has been said that my intentions are decisive, but it takes two to tango.

“Eventual offers from Manchester United or Monaco make me proud, but nobody has called me.

“Now I am focusing on the Confederations Cup and after that I’ll understand what’s real and what isn’t.”

Marchisio has steadily been improving every year in Turin and he is renowned as an intelligent, tough tackling player with a real eye for goal.

At Euro 2012, he was one of Italy’s stand-out performers with a no nonsense, energetic approach to the midfield that allowed Pirlo the space in which to work his magic which he did with such consummate ease against England.

It is a partnership that has been replicated at Juventus and with 15 goals in 79 appearances in the last two years, Marchisio combines his combative style of play with a real eye for goal which makes him a very versatile midfielder.

At 27, he has a great level of experience but having come through the lean years in Turin, it would be a big surprise if Marchisio left when they were at the top of Serie A.

Despite that, he is clearly aware of potential interest from United and a fee of €20 million has been attached to Marchisio,  but he would bring a real level of experience into a very youthful United side and his sweeper type style of play would free Carrick to operate in a Pirlo type role.

Marchisio has become the latest player linked with United this week with the likes of Nampalys Mendy, Kevin Strootman and Thiago Alcantara all linked with a move to Old Trafford.
