Barcelona want Rooney in €30m Thiago swap deal with United

by Sam Peoples

rooney-thiagoToday’s front page of Spain’s SPORT has claimed that Barcelona want to strike a deal with Manchester United to bring Wayne Rooney to the Nou Camp as part of an agreement that would see Thiago go the other way.

The article claims that only €12 million plus waving Thiago’s release clause of €18 million would be enough to prize Rooney away from Manchester. Are they mad?

All season long, Rooney hasn’t been in the best mental (or physical) shape having played second fiddle to Robin van Persie yet he still scored 16 goals. He wants to be the main man in the team and thrives off that spotlight.

So why would he want to move to Barcelona where Messi and Neymar will be firmly in the limelight? It would force Rooney to permanently play on the left hand side to accommodate for others.

On top of that, Barcelona will fork out a whopping €57 million for Neymar, so it seems unlikely they would then be able to afford Rooney’s wages of £250,000 a week.

Given the claims that Rooney wants to leave United, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move away from Old Trafford but not to Barcelona.

If Rooney decides to leave United, his options are extremely limited because of his demands and the likes of Monaco, PSG and (god forbid) Manchester City are the only teams likely to be able to afford him.

For me, if Rooney did hand in a second transfer request in three years then good riddance to him. If he didn’t, then I’d like him to stay. It’s as simple as that.

I think if Ferguson had not retired then Rooney would 100% be leaving. I felt their relationship had run its course but under David Moyes, Rooney has another chance. The pair may have history but as a manager, the last thing you want to do when taking over a team is lose your best players, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Moyes is trying everything in his power to patch it up with Rooney for the sake of the team.
