Nemanja Vidic’s agent has laughed off rumours that the Serbian defender will leave Manchester United this summer.
Many suggested Vidic could be the fall guy should Ezequiel Garay join the club and persistent speculation linking the 31-year-old with AC Milan has done little to dispel rumours.
But his agent Silvano Martina has scoffed at the rumours and labelled it all as nothing more than ‘pub talk’.
Speaking to Fantagazzeta, Martina said: “We are talking with no-one, this is all pub talk – this is the first time I heard that news and I don’t know where it came from.
“We’re talking about the captain of Manchester United here, not just any player. Vidic has no problems with United – all the talk is hot air.”
Vidic made 23 appearances last season for United in an injury disrupted campaign and it had been suggested that the club could cash in on the commanding Serb as he enters the final year of his contract.
But a fairly flat denial from Vidic’s representatives suggests the 31-year-old won’t be leaving the club this summer. Good.
Vidic is likely to be a big player under David Moyes. The Scot typically likes no frills, no-nonsense defenders and Vidic is certainly of that ilk. While he may not be the best physically, especially after a horrific knee injury in the 2011/12 season, he is still arguably the best defender of an 18 yard box in world football and his influence in the dressing room is huge.
Two years ago Ferdinand was ‘past it’ and last year he earned a spot in the PFA Team of the Year. Now it is Vidic’s turn to do the same.
