Thiago Alcantara’s decision, or lack of, as to whether he will leave Barcelona is a pressing issue for the Catalan club.
The Spanish daily SPORT claims that Barcelona are getting annoyed at his lack of a decision and are already looking at a replacement for the 23-year-old, in what would be the clearest sign that he was leaving the club so far.
But the crux of the matter is that if Thiago is in any doubt about Barcelona, which he clearly is, then it tells me that he knows the club isn’t the right place for him right now.
The silence on his part shows he is thinking about a move away and that indicates he doesn’t have complete trust in the way that Tito Vilanova manages.
With the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets and Fabregas all ahead of him in the pecking order, he has no reason to believe he will be given the opportunities he wants next season.
His public indecisiveness has led to swathes of speculation but David Moyes’ first official press conference as United manager is on Friday and there is hope that a Thiago deal could be announced that day or at least confirmed by the club.
On another point, SPORT also claim that David Villa ( 31) would be used as a make-weight in a deal to lure Wayne Rooney to Barcelona. As far as pulled-out-of-thin-air transfer rumours go, this one rates highly. If Rooney was to leave, why would United take on an ageing and past it striker to sweeten the deal?
