Moyes confirms United are looking to secure signings within a week

David Moyes has confirmed that he is looking to try and bring in some new players to Manchester United before the start of pre-season on 13 July.

The 50-year-old Scot faced the media this afternoon for the first time as United manager and handled the pressures of the intense press conference well.

He confirmed that Wayne Rooney will not be sold by United and relayed his hope that the club will be able to secure some new signings ahead of the start of the 2013 tour of Asia.

“We will do everything we can to add to the squad. We will always be interested in the best players,” he said.

“I’ll try [to secure signings before the tour] but time is closing in.

“The way the transfer window is going I think some transfers will be done quite late in the window.”

It is very typically United to wrap up transfers as soon as possible in the window but by the sounds of it, United fans could be in for a long summer when it comes to signings.

Surprisingly, no journalist questioned Moyes on the strong Thiago rumours that have been circulating but Moyes was categorical in his approach to speaking about players at other clubs.

He continued: “I would never speak about players at other football clubs but when they are under contract at other clubs, it is wrong.”

With pre-season just eight days away, fans can still expect to have some sort of official movement regarding player transfers but like Ferguson, Moyes looks like he will keep his cards as close to his chest as possible.
