PICTURE: Thiago’s silence over Barcelona future explained

Thiago Alcantara has remained silent about his Barcelona future ever since his €18 million release was made public knowledge.

After Spain’s successful U21 European Championship triumph in June, Thiago went on holiday and was expected to make a decision on his future when he returned.

I thought that Thiago came back from holiday last week but given that he was sent a picture on Twitter labelled “Holiday breakfast”, he is still yet to return to Barcelona which explains why there has been no official movement regarding a potential transfer.

Because Thiago has an active release clause, the 22-year-old’s decision is what will make a transfer go ahead or stagnate. Barcelona are powerless to accept/reject any offer so long as it meets the release clause meaning it is down to Thiago as to what happens.

Spanish newspapers have done nothing to suggest that Thiago won’t be leaving Barcelona this summer with Mundo Deportivo even claiming that Neymar wants his shirt number #11 and David Moyes this morning admitted that the club were working hard behind the scenes to bring players into the club.

Not even Thiago’s father and agent Mazinho knows the decision his son is going to take but Barcelona have confirmed they expect Thiago to join up with them in pre-season that begins next week, so Thiago is going to have to make public his decision soon.

And the optimist inside every United fan hopes that Thiago may already have made his decision and is simply taking an extended holiday before what will be a huge step in his career where he would be thrust into the limelight at United.
