Robson knows who he wants Manchester United to sign

Manchester United legends Dwight Yorke and Bryan Robson have welcomed the suggestion that Cesc Fabregas would be an important figure for the club.

The Reds, who are enjoying their pre-season tour, have been the centre of media attention in recent weeks as David Moyes seeks for a central midfielder following the retirement of Paul Scholes last season.

Former team-mate of Scholes’, Dwight Yorke believes that Fabregas’ previous experience, both with Van Persie and the Premier League, would provide key in any success for United.

“If we can get him [Fabregas] it would be a fantastic scoop,” he said.

“The great thing about him is the fact that he had so many experiences in the Premier League. Him and [Robin] van Persie had a great understanding [at Arsenal] so we know he’s a top player.”

Robson added in re-iterating the global presence that United have maintained over the years and that in order to compete with the European giants, depth must be added to the squad.

“I think Fabregas is a fantastic player and I hope he’s playing for Manchester United next season,” he added.

“We’ve got a few people in mind who we would like to try and sign.

“You’ve got to try and bring new players in because Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all top teams and they want to try and keep improving all the time.”

However, should the worst case scenario dawn upon United, Robson feels that the current branch of quality at the club can allow the club to follow tradition in entrusting the youth.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson.

He continued: “They’ve got to step up. They’ve got to take on that they’re a United player so they’re going to have a better chance to prove that.”

Exiting at the hands of Real Madrid in rather unfortunate circumstances in the Champions League last season showed that Manchester United were capable of beating the worlds best but there is still a big gap in midfield for United.

David Moyes has recently been quoted as to having noted that this growing issue needs addressing but with Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman already off the radar, United have not been left with many more options with time gradually running out in preparation for the start of the new Premier League campaign.
