Manchester United midfielder linked with move away

by Sam Peoples

Ryan Tunnicliffe has been approached by Brighton & Hove Albion and Ipswich Town about a potential loan move this summer according to Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old has previously spent loan spells at Barnsley and Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough Town but a move to Championship side Brighton, who missed out on a play-off final spot thanks to a Wilfried Zaha brace, would be a good step up.

Tunnicliffe is fans’ favourite type of midfielder – his no nonsense, high octane tackling combined with a seemingly endless engine make him an old school box-to-box midfielder.

Winner of the 2011 Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year, he made his full senior debut last year against Newcastle and also appeared in United’s 5-4 loss  to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but a drink driving incident that culminated in a car crash didn’t put him in Ferguson’s good books.

Although he will get a fresh opportunity under Moyes, a loan spell to a competitive Championship club will really help round his game. He is still overly aggressive and would be too much of a risk to put in United’s first team but if he can mellow out with a season of regular first team football, he could come back to United and challenge for a squad spot.
