Wilfried Zaha sets his goals for this season

Manchester United new boy Wilfried Zaha is seeking regular first-team action at Old Trafford this season.

The 20-year-old joined the club last January in a £15 million move from Crystal Palace but returned to the club for a successful promotion push.

He has continued his fine form into United’s pre-season and has been one of the best players so far on the tour and playing with the first-team is something he wants to do on a regular basis next season.

“For my first season the plan is to secure a first-team place,” he told the club’s official website.

“I just want to be able to play regularly. That’s my goal for my first season in the Premier League.

“If I manage to accomplish that then I can move on to other things. I’m just taking things step by step.

“I already think it’s a great achievement for me to be able to wear the Manchester United shirt. I’m just taking everything slowly and I hope to score a goal on the tour. That would cap everything for me.”

Like most youngsters in their first season at the club at senior level, Zaha is finding it hard to come to terms of sitting next to the traditional big names that come with the stature of the club.

“I’m still a bit starstruck, if I’m honest, but I’m enjoying every minute of it.

“In the changing room I’m sitting between Ryan Giggs and Danny Welbeck. I mean, I’m sitting next to these famous people who I watch all the time on TV. It’s just a dream to be able to play with them.

“I sit there and think, ‘Oh my God, I’m actually in the changing room with these guys’. But I’m obviously here for a reason.

“I worked hard at Palace to get the move I wanted and I just want to prove to people that I deserve to be here.”

With much criticism coming in the direction of the wide men at United last season, David Moyes and fans will be hoping that Zaha adds creativity and a unique spark to the Red Devils game this season that seemed a rarity in the previous campaign.

He came agonisingly close to scoring on his debut cameo appearance and at the current rate of development that the Englishman is showing, it shouldn’t be too long before he grabs his first goal in United colours.

So far on the tour, he has shown Moyes that he is more than capable of holding his own in United’s first team so if he continues, he’ll have every chance of featuring regularly in the Premier League.
