The performances of Wilfried Zaha on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Asia have caused a real stir of excitement among fans.
Direct, skillful, intelligent and decisive, the 20-year-old winger has hit the ground running and showcased exactly why United were willing to pay £15 million for him.
Against Cerezo Osaka, his 15 minute cameo appearance that culminated in his first goal as a United player with a late equaliser earned him the man of the match award – a richly deserved trophy considering how good every one of his performances has been on tour.
It is hard not to get really excited about Zaha because of how poor United’s wingers were last season. None of them had the confidence to take their man on yet that is Zaha’s bread and butter, he takes defenders on for fun and leaves them in his dust.
But it is the whole Zaha package that makes him such a prospect. Grounded and respectful, Zaha has set his sights on gaining as much first team football this season as possible and that isn’t going to be a problem at all. The way he is playing, Moyes will want to give him the chance to tear Premier League defences apart.
“Everyone’s so nice and they make you feel comfortable. I was so nervous when I came in, but I was made to feel at home straight away,” he admitted in an interview with ManUtd.com
Zaha’s attitude, talent and direction are all setting him up for what has the potential to be an illustrious career at Old Trafford.
While we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves, if he can continue in the same vein of form that he has started, then this man of the match trophy won’t be the first that he wins with United.
