Monaco’s sporting director Vadim Vasilyev has not ruled out a move for Nani this summer after Manchester United offered them the player but admits there has yet to be any talks.
The 26-year-old hasn’t joined up with his team-mates so far this summer after missing the tour due to a surgery on his nose and speculation has been rife that he will leave Old Trafford.
And when speaking with French newspaper L’Equipe, Vasilyev didn’t quash any speculation that he could be joining up with Monaco this summer.
“He is a very good player, but there have been no talks so far,” he said.
“We have already changed our group quite a bit and we also want to offer opportunities to our young players.
“We still have time to make a few alterations before the end of the transfer window, if needed.”
Monaco have spent a huge amount of money so far this summer in recruiting the likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez and Jeremy Toulalan but their spending may not be over.
Last week, L’Equipe claimed that Nani had been in negotiations with the club and although that has proven not to be the case, Monaco have now confirmed that his name has been discussed by the board.
While many are not a fan of Nani, his ability to make something from nothing makes him United’s best winger despite his poor return last season and if he was to leave, United couldn’t afford to not re-invest in a suitable replacement. It would be a huge risk to let Nani leave and allow Wilfried Zaha to try and walk into his shoes.
